Arson fraud remains a problem for insurance companies in Nevada

On Behalf of | Apr 26, 2022 | Insurance Law |

Arson fraud is insurance fraud committed by property owners who deliberately set fire to their property in order to collect from their insurance company. Arson is an illegal activity that costs insurance companies millions of dollars each year. There are many different people who may commit arson and insurance companies

A typical arson fraud case involves a person setting a fire to their home, business, or car to collect insurance money to pay off a balance due. Insurance companies often have to spend time and money trying to get to the bottom of these fires. There are a number of reasons why a person commits arson. These include:

  • Those who set fires just for the thrill of it. The targets may just be random and opportunistic.
  • Those who set fires for revenge. A person may set fire at a neighbor house, or target a workplace or a racial or religious group.
  • Some people may set fire in order to hide another crime. A criminal may want to hide the evidence of another crime.
  • A person may set a fire in order to profit from the insurance settlement. A business owner or property owner may set fire to their property in order to recoup some of their losses.

Arson and insurance fraud are both crimes in Nevada. An attorney who specializes in insurance law can help their client with any insurance fraud case, regardless of the circumstances. An attorney has the experience to take on those who are committing insurance fraud and holding them accountable.
